How to pick your meditations.

Start simple , Start small. Two minute, breath-led meditations are a great place to start.
Practice in your home, garden, on the beach, waiting for a bus or even as you wait to get through the grocery check-out. It will take several weeks to master the skill of being able to relax your whole body by focusing on your breath. This is a skill you'll have for life.

Don't be in a rush to 'progress'.

When you are ready to move on, find a longer meditation that "resonates" with you, practice at this level for however long it takes, then move onto a longer meditation. Ideally meditation of 20 minutes a day is what you aim to practice.

Setting your Intentions

Get the most out of your membership: find your space, practice regularly, write it down.

Find your space.

Dedicate a space for meditation, it needs to be comfortable for you, preferably quiet and gives you a sense of relaxation. Find your space with room to breathe. Meditation can be done sitting or lying down.

  • It's as simple as a chair or a cushion.

  • It's as grand as a meditation room with candles, crystals and a hand-carved Buddha.

  • A space where you can settle into deep relaxation and where you won't be disturbed.

It does not need to be the same place every time but it does need to be somewhere you feel comfortable. When you are travelling this can become a bit trickier, but the more you practice the better you will be at accessing your “place” no matter the location.

Practice regularly.

Mindfulness doesn’t happen overnight. As with most things in life the more effort you put into it the more you will get out of it. Choose a time to practice daily. Set a reminder on your phone until the habit is established. Before long, you will be looking forward to a "quiet time fix" everyday.

  • Think early morning, before your busy day starts...

  • Think before, during, after work...

  • Think part of your bedtime routine...

Take time to practice, if you are in the area, come join me for a class. If not don’t worry, you can do it and these guided meditations will be the path to discovering how to develop a sense of calm and mental resilience that you can use for the rest of your life.

Write it down.

People assume that meditating means you have to be still and silent. But that is not the case, meditation is about finding you inner self and a great tool for this is journalling. Journaling is an active form of mindfulness. It's an opportunity to explore what lies in your heart, gaining insight through creativity.

It adds another layer to your meditation practice, helping you to savour the good and settle the challenges in your life. Writing is such a magnificent tool to connect your thoughts and emotions with your body. Journalling gives you a safe space to put your personal thoughts, ideas, dreams, drawings, poems - whatever you think on paper. It has a way of making these “things” become something more.
