3 Ways to Keep a Cool Head & Clear Mind
Over the past few weeks, the world has changed dramatically. Daily schedules, work-life, home-life & everything in between have been completely flipped upside down. Here are 3 ways to keep a cool head and a clear mind in these challenging times.
Our health and wellbeing is our greatest asset. Stay out of fear, it's contagious! Also, be kind as often as you can. People need kindness more than ever right now.
1. START YOUR DAY RIGHT.
Surf, walk, run, swim, yoga- these are just a few of the activities that will increase your endorphins in the morning. Make sure you’re following your local Council’s public safety advisories if you’re heading outdoors. If you’re being extra cautious and staying indoors, there are tons of exercise apps that are offering 6 week subscriptions free of charge during the crisis.
Staying physically fit and switched on is important, even if the couch is calling your name during isolation. Make sure to eat a good breakfast, your brain needs fuel- but go easy on the coffee! Now is a good time to reduce your morning caffeine intake. With reduced activity, you will realise that you don’t need your daily caffeine fix as much as you thought.
2. PRACTICE MINDFULNESS
Before starting work or on those quarantine to-do items such as cleaning up the house or doing an online course, choose a form of meditation that works for you. Aim for at least 5 minutes.
Mindfulness isn’t a one-time practice. Daily practice will train your brain to be more mindful. Think of an elite sportsperson prepping for a big game. Focusing the brain to be ready to get the task at hand done.
There are many ways to practice mindfulness. For example, an online one-on-one session, my free weekly Soul Circles on Wednesdays, and there are countless videos on Youtube which you can check out.
3. END YOUR DAY RIGHT.
Listen to music, read, watch comedy, meditate or even go outside and gaze up to the stars! TURN OFF THE SCREENS! This is a huge one. Try to make your bedroom a ‘no screen’ zone. Yes, that does mean your phone! Try to opt for an old fashioned alarm clock. Screens & brains are like dogs & bones..... they keep searching for them & they never rest. Give your brain at least 1 hour of no screen time before your typical bedtime.
Bedrooms are for rest and sleeping, and yes the occasional extra special activity! Wake up fresh as a daisy, ready to do it all over again!
